APRIL 16TH-22ND, 2014,
In Between Shades is a brand new compilation of paintings, prints and drawings executed since January of 2014 that focuses on the ongoing reality of raising a social conscience towards advocating equal rights for women in current society.
Sprinkled with a touch of new wave feminism and tasteful yet playful provocative controversy in the image choices, this year's annual solo exhibition relates with this shady ongoing universal concern and with the non-visible reality and nature that many women are subjected to and live with, because of their gender, on a day to day basis around the world.
Women's consistent objectification, imposed or implied hyper-sexualisation, constant self-image awareness and consciousness in a still largely patriarchal society have been all important thoughts in this compilation. These concerns and considerations were applied consciously to the building and development of the images chosen, and the artistic expression executed in the body of work being displayed.
In Between Shades sums up some of the very real grey zones in which women's portrayal of themselves and to others remains in, and how their roles in society are still somewhat blurred in both the private and public spheres

EXPOSITION D’ART
16-22 AVRIL, 2014

APRIL 11TH-17TH, 2013, VERNISSAGE APRIL 13TH, 2013, 6PM-9PM
Throughout the universal history of art, women have been depicted as either Madonna or whore; as nurturing care-givers or as malicious, hyper sexualized sinful temptresses. Very few depictions seem to fall into the ambiguous limbo of the “in-between”. It is this extreme bipolarity of the two options or opposing sides of the female interpretation and representation spectrum that we reference when questioning their roles. It is precisely this that I find seductive and intriguing. This very ambiguous middle ground that I have been exploring while preparing and building this compilation of art works for April 2013.
From Picasso”s “Les Demoisselles d’Avignon” in 1907, to Tamara de Lempicka’s “Nude with Buildings” from 1930, and finally to Cindy Sherman’s “Self-Portrait of Marilyn Monroe” in 1982; classical to contemporary female and male artists seem to continuously and consistently favor women as their muses, subject matter and study concentrations. And I am no exception.
Having recently completed my graduate studies in Fine Art and Activism a year to this day; looking back in nostalgic retrospect I can say that the same on subject matter can be said for me. The issues being questioned may alter or branch off lightly, but the subject remains the same.
Women and their roles in politics, religion and the public and private sphere, as well as how they are viewed and perceived by society, the collective unconscious, men and other women, are ongoing concerns of mine that inevitably continue to feed my work in different mediums, not only through images but similarly in the shape of other questions.
The compilation of work gathered for this exhibition aims and continues to do exactly that; I ask out loud, where is the line drawn between being viewed or perceived as either victim or vixen as a woman? How does the context in which she is seen, body language, attitude, energy and consensus or majority play an active role in how a woman is perceived and how she herself perceives not only herself but other women?
What ties all images in this body of work together through paint, print and ink, are the characters’ strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, that they were all created with the idea of a “not-so-conventional” Heroine in mind and that they are all survivors, warriors and Women. These ladies and the visual conversations I have shared with them over the past year, keep me busy asking questions every day and looking for answers.

À LA LIMITE ENTRE UNE TRAÎNÈE ET UNE VICTIME
ARIANNA GARCIA-FIALDINI
EXPOSITION D’ART
11 AVRIL – 17 AVRIL, 2013

pART PROJECT ROLLS INTO THE BIG APPLE...
The SRAM pART PROJECT is back, bigger than ever. pART PROJECT NYC debuts this November with twice as many artists and a whole new way to transform bike parts into art.
It’s art that’s continuing to make a difference. And a big splash, too.
For the New York City event, over 80 noted artists will contribute original pieces created from SRAM components – including, for the first time, works of collage as well as sculpture. The artworks will be featured in a juried gallery exhibition, then sold at a gala live auction event.
The auction is scheduled for November 29th at the Cedar Lake Theatre in New York City. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to World Bicycle Relief.
First- and second-place prizes will be awarded in the collage and sculpture categories. There will also be one overall grand-prize winner, who will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Africa to witness the work of World Bicycle Relief firsthand.
Here’s a box of 100 SRAM high-performance bike components. Now make something of it. That’s the challenge SRAM lays down for groups of noted, hand-selected artists.
The works they create are displayed and auctioned off with all proceeds from auctions being donated to World Bicycle Relief.
THE CAUSE
World Bicycle Relief serves people in underdeveloped regions of the world who suffer from lack of access to health care, education, and economic opportunity. With a bicycle you can travel four times farther, carry five times more, and save up to three hours a day in travel time (based on a 10-mile commute). So you can get to a doctor, to school, or to work faster and more safely. Doors closed by distance are now opened, as is the way to a better life.
Korporeal is a surreal combination of the distinct practices of Arianna Garcia Fialdini, Angelalynn Dunlop and Haynes Goodsell. Three North American artists, researching divergent issues all found visual conclusions for their respected inquiries in body imagery. Thus, Korporeal unifies the MFA graduating class of the Burren College of Art 2012. This Degree Show held at the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan Co. Clare, opens on April 14, 2012. Nigel Rolfe will introduce the artists, whose art will be on display in both the BCA Gallery and Newtown Castle, refreshments to be served on the night between 6-9pm.
Arianna Garcia Fialdini’s contemporary approach to traditional Mexican mural making addresses the ongoing femicide occurring in the northern city of Juarez, Mexico. The disappearance, kidnapping and murdering of Mexico’s mothers, sisters, daughters and aunts increases and remains unacknowledged by the government due to their direct involvement and financial profit. Arianna has taken on the task of diplomatic protest by spreading visual awareness of the injustices being done to her country’s women. Her goal is to tell the stories of the suffered woman as well as reflect on the impact of those left behind. Creating portraits and murals that represent the effected peoples experiences not only humanizes the victims but informs populations outside of the situation who are kept unaware. Using knowledge and visual communication as her tools Arianna challenges those who use ignorance and force as their weapon.
Angelalynn Dunlop, through performance/body art visually navigates the affect landscapes of the emotional residue left in the body as the aftermath of experience.
Her explorations into existential philosophy and its relationship to performance and body art lead to a belief that the body is our common denominator and through it a deeper communication between people is possible. Her live work and edited documentation are visual reconstructions of the emotions we feel yet cannot articulate.
Haynes Goodsell takes a radical approach to the contemporary image of the ideal male and the corporate construction of these images. He examines different roles of image construction by becoming the model, the photographer, the editor and (in a more recent development) the company for which the image is created. Haynes adds his voice to discourse surrounding the advertisement industry by producing visual research to the question: What is it we are selling? He demonstrates his ideas through appropriation and re-construction of the fashion industry’s advertisement portfolio. His unique process of re-creating the perfect image plays with relationships of ego and self image, as well as introduces topics of narcissism that he hypothesizes is inherent to human nature.
The subjects found in each of these artists work explores different aspects of Korporeal relations had to others bodies, to our tactile body and to our body image. Ariana brings awareness to the growing body count in Northern Mexico by creating dark and provocative imagery of femicide, her korporeal images are bursting with calls for help and empathy. Angelalynn crawls into the body and extracts our deepest emotive connections to one another by producing emotional pregnant performance art that utilizes the body as both material and subject matter. Haynes depiction of his own body as a tool for the deconstruction and reconstruction of corporate image making is charged with controversial views that question what is it about human nature that allows advertisements to seduce.
To find out more about these artists you can access their personal websites from the current student listings found on the Burren College of Art webpage: www.burrencollege.ie

The 5th Annual 126 Members' Show
Jan 11th - Feb 4th, 2012
Gallery 126 is delighted to present its 5th Annual Members’ Show.
The 5th Annual 126 Members Show pays tribute to pre-eminent curator Walter Hopps’ seminal 36 Hours project at MOTA (The Museum of Temporary Art), Washington, USA in 1978. Opening initially with a blank gallery, the project will allow any 126 member to deliver a single new piece of work to the gallery, without fear of censorship or rejection, whereupon it will be hung there and then by a member of the 126 board. The show will be inclusive, making no distinction between artists or selection of works. 126 will adhere to this framework in an attempt to explore curatorial models and boundaries, and experiment with exhibition formats.
The Annual Members’ Show is a vital part of 126. It is open to all members and is a great opportunity for emerging artists.
CLOSING RECEPTION: Wednesday 1st February, 7.00pm - 9.00pm
126 is Galway’s first artist-led exhibition space. 126 was established in 2005 by local artists in response to the urgent need for more non-commercial gallery spaces in Galway. 126 has developed a reputation as an organisation, which supports traditionally unrepresented artistic projects. Because 126 is a non-profit, publicly funded gallery space, it is able to make decisions on an artistic rather than an economic basis. As such, 126 is gaining recognition and support as a place of cultural innovation in Ireland and is becoming an integral part of Galway’s cultural fabric.

126 is generously supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, Galway City Council and its membership.

Conversion, a new student show to be featured at The Burren College of Art, is proud to present international Masters of Fine Arts students Haynes Goodsell, Angelalynn Dunlop and Arianna Garcia-Fialdini in their Interim MFA exhibition at 5pm on Saturday, December 10th, 2011. This exhibition is free to the public, and will be held in the Burren College of Art Gallery. Refreshments will be provided at the opening, and guest speaker Emmett Kierans will be giving an introductory talk on the artists. Concurrently showing will be Beyond the Pale, which features the works of this semester’s undergraduate students, which will be held in the courtyard and drawing studios.
American photographer and video artist Haynes Goodsell, known for his seductive self-portraits, will be displaying a video work documenting the exhaustive process of a photo-shoot, as well as several photographs the artist has taken of him self in an attempt to subvert and emulate main stream representations of the male physique. Goodsell, model, photographer, and editor, will play a three person role by representing himself as the visual artist, the subject matter, and the post-production editor. Goodsell has shown in both Ireland and the US.
Chicago based performance artist Angelalynn Dunlop will be displaying video documentation of a poetic performance involving body endurance and expression. Within her work the artist explores existential affect, and in doing so she embodies a certain emotion so that the viewer can bring their own emotive memories into the work. In addition to the video work, Angelalynn with guest performer Eve Mahoney, will perform a live-art performance during the event. Angelalynn has shown and performed in both Ireland and the US.
Mexican Painter Arianna Garcia-Fialdini will be displaying a set of politically charged watercolor drawings as well as a life-sized Aztec-calendar mural that comments on the current situation in Northern Mexico, involving the unfortunate murders of thousands of female factory workers. Garcia’s sensitive and controversial subject matter is represented directly on the wall, and is scaled larger-than-life. Garcia has shown in Mexico, Canada, and Ireland throughout the past 8 years.
The title Conversion applies to each of these artists in various ways. Haynes work allows him to transform his audience. The persona he becomes within his work, named Huigneiider, has been a well kept secret for the majority of his artistic career, and he is now exploring the difference of how an unknown audience will engage with this identity. Angelalynn alters her own interior emotive landscapes and interprets them for the audience through her elaborate performances. This act, in and of itself, also changes the significance of the performance as viewers are allowed to internally project their own histories onto the artist’s actions. Arianna takes her artwork and transcends the typical notions of fine-art by also incorporating her work outside of the gallery setting. She also uses it to transform her political ideals into a language that can be expressed in such a way that words cannot allow.
